Typefont Poster

Spring 2023 | Advanced Graphic Design

For this assignment, I was required to design a poster with a given type font. I was given the type font Didot. The elements needed in the poster were: the name of the typeface, the name of the designer, the year it was designed, a few paragraphs about the purpose of its form, and the full character set for the typeface. My goal was to create visual hierarchy with a cohesive design.

As I researched this font, I learned the font was designed by Firmin Didot in 1784 in Paris, France. The font is widely known for increased stroke contrast, vertical stress, and flat, unbracketed serifs. Didot got inspiration from Baskerville's increased stroke contrast and more condensed armature. The font was widely used for printing but now is used for fashion publications with brands such as Harpers Bazar and Vogue using it.

Critiques

After presenting my breadth and depth explorations, I recieved some feedback. One of the suggestions made to me was that my posters needed to align with a typesetting better. Additionally, I was told that I should rework a couple color schemes to incorporate colors from a previous iteration.
